To prepare for permanent makeup in Dallas, stop tweezing, waxing, or threading the area two weeks before, pause retinoids and lash serums, skip alcohol the day before, and arrive with clean, makeup-free skin. Share every medication, supplement, and skin condition with your artist when you book.
BrowLady is a permanent makeup studio at 6510 Abrams Road, Suite 404, Dallas, TX 75231, in the White Rock Tower. Silvia Young does every treatment herself and has been doing permanent makeup for more than 22 years. If you’re still deciding between treatments, our guide to semi-permanent makeup in Dallas covers the options. The prep list here is the same one we go over with new clients, in the order you’ll need it.
What is the permanent makeup preparation timeline in Dallas?
Permanent makeup preparation in Dallas starts about a month before your appointment and finishes the morning of. Pigment holds best in skin that isn’t irritated. If your skin is peeling, sunburned, or still healing from a facial, the color can heal patchy, and Silvia has more to fix at the perfecting session.
Four weeks before
Stop lash growth serums such as Latisse if you’re booking permanent eyeliner.
Finish any chemical peel, laser, or microneedling near the treatment area by now.
Tell your dermatologist about the appointment if you use prescription acne or skin medication.
Two weeks before
Stop tweezing, waxing, threading, and tinting your brows, and let them grow freely.
Pause retinol and acid exfoliants on the treatment area, and ask before pausing tretinoin.
Wear a hat and SPF outdoors, and stay out of tanning beds entirely.
The week before
Save photos of brows or lips you like, plus a few you dislike.
Move swimming, hot yoga, and sauna plans out of the week after your appointment.
Write down every medication and supplement you take, including doses, to bring along.
24 to 48 hours before
Skip alcohol, because it thins the blood and increases bleeding during treatment.
Ask your doctor before pausing aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, or vitamin E supplements.
Wash your hair the night before, since your brows must stay dry afterward.
The morning of your appointment
Arrive with a clean face and no makeup on your brows, eyes, or lips.
Eat a proper meal so you stay comfortable through a two- to three-hour visit.
Wear glasses instead of contact lenses if you’re getting permanent eyeliner that day.
If you only remember one date, make it the two-week mark for brows. When a client tweezes right up to the day before, Silvia can’t see where the natural hair grows, and that’s what she maps the new shape around. Put up with messy brows for two weeks. It’s worth it.

For microblading and other permanent eyebrows, preparation comes down to leaving your brows alone for two weeks and arriving without brow products. Plan for two appointments with microblading at BrowLady: the first session, then a perfecting session six to eight weeks later. If you have oily skin or large pores, ask about powder and combo permanent eyebrows at your consultation. Fine hair strokes tend to blur on oily skin as they heal. Our ombre powder brows article shows how that softer, shaded look differs.
Before permanent eyeliner, stop lash growth serums a month ahead and have lash extensions removed. Bring sunglasses for the drive home, since some swelling and tenderness is normal for the first few hours. Before lip blush, sort out cold sores first. Tattooing the lips can trigger an outbreak in people who get them, so if you’ve ever had one, ask your doctor about an antiviral well before your appointment. If you use lip filler, tell us when your last filler appointment was so we can pick a date that works.
How should you prepare your skin for permanent makeup in the Dallas heat?
If your appointment falls between May and September, plan for the sun. Sunburned or peeling skin on the brow bone, eyelids, or lips shouldn’t be tattooed, and a fresh tan changes how a pigment color reads against your skin. For the two weeks before your appointment, wear a hat and SPF on the treatment area whenever you’re outside.
Here’s how that plays out. A client books powder brows for a Tuesday in July, then spends Saturday on a boat at Lake Lewisville without a hat. By Monday her forehead is pink and starting to flake. She should call and push the appointment back a week or two. Waiting is a lot easier than fixing patchy brows later.
Also pause retinol, glycolic acid, and other exfoliating products on the treatment area for about two weeks. They thin the outer layer of the skin, so it bleeds more easily and can heal unevenly. Your regular gentle cleanser and a plain moisturizer are fine to keep using.
If your summer is mostly lake weekends and pool days, we suggest booking brows or lips between October and April. You can’t swim for a week after treatment, and that’s a lot easier when the pool is already closed.
What happens at a Dallas permanent makeup appointment, and how should you plan the day?
A first brow appointment at BrowLady usually takes 2 to 3 hours. That time covers the consultation, brow mapping, choosing the shape and color, and the procedure itself. Silvia Young draws the design on your face and gets your approval before any pigment goes in.
Plan the rest of the day lightly. Straight after treatment, brows look darker and bolder than they’ll once healed, and eyeliner can leave your eyes puffy for a few hours. BrowLady works by appointment only, so allow extra time for traffic on US-75 or I-635 if you’re driving in from Plano, Richardson, or Garland. We sometimes hear from clients who work in Uptown and want to fit microblading into a long lunch. We’d point them to a morning slot with nothing booked afterward. Three hours is a lot to squeeze into a workday, and you probably don’t want to walk into a 3 p.m. meeting with brows a shade darker than they’ll end up.
How do you plan permanent makeup aftercare before your appointment?
Sort out your first week before the appointment happens. For seven days after brow treatment, keep your brows dry, skip swimming, saunas, and heavy sweating, and don’t put makeup on them. Our aftercare guide for permanent eyebrows has the full list.
Move hot yoga, runs, and heavy gym sessions out of the first week.
Put a clean pillowcase on your bed the night of your appointment.
Plan how you’ll wash your hair without water running over your brows.
Expect microblading strokes to look faded around days 5 to 10 while healing.
Book your perfecting session for six to eight weeks after the first appointment.
Count backward from any event where photos matter. Microblading needs its perfecting session at six to eight weeks, and the brows need a few more weeks to settle after that, so book at least two to three months before a wedding or family photos. When a bride calls us four weeks before her wedding asking for microblading, we suggest waiting until after the wedding, or going ahead only if she is comfortable with first-session brows in her photos.
What should you check with a Dallas permanent makeup artist before your appointment?
Texas requires studios that do permanent cosmetics or microblading to hold a tattoo studio license from the Texas Department of State Health Services. You can look any studio up on the DSHS public license search without logging in.
Ask whether the perfecting session is included in the price. At BrowLady, it’s included with microblading.
Look at healed photos taken weeks after treatment, since fresh photos always look darker and sharper than the result you’ll live with.
Get the pre-care and aftercare instructions in writing, and ask what happens if a sunburn, illness, or cold sore means you need to reschedule.
The Bottom Line
Start with a consultation. Tell us which treatment you’re considering, the medications and supplements you take, and any skin treatments you’ve had in the past month. Silvia will tell you which preparation steps apply to you, flag anything that needs your doctor’s input, and suggest a date that works around your events and summer plans. Call (214) 454-5078 or book a consultation with BrowLady online. We work by appointment only at 6510 Abrams Road, Suite 404, Dallas, TX 75231.
How far in advance should I stop plucking my eyebrows before microblading?
Stop plucking, waxing, and threading your brows at least two weeks before your appointment. That gives the natural hair time to grow in, so your artist can map the shape around where your brows actually grow.
Can I drink alcohol before permanent makeup?
Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment. Alcohol thins the blood, which can increase bleeding during the procedure and make it harder for the skin to hold pigment evenly.
Can I drink coffee before a permanent makeup appointment?
One regular cup is usually fine. If coffee makes you jittery or flushed, skip it that morning and have it afterward. Sitting still for two hours is easier without the jitters.
Should I wear makeup to my permanent makeup appointment?
Arrive with no makeup on the treatment area. Skip brow pencil for brows, eyeliner and mascara for eyeliner, and lipstick for lip blush. Your artist needs to see your natural shape and skin tone.
